Privacy
For mcval.org and the launch globe at mcval.org/launches. Last changed 5 October 2026.
What a visit leaves behind
For each page view, the site keeps:
- the page and its link, without advertising click IDs
- the time
- your browser's name and version, its language and its time zone
- the site that sent you, if your browser says
- an approximate place (city, region, country) and the network you're on, looked up from your IP address
Your IP address itself is not kept, and nothing is stored on your device. Vercel, which hosts the site, also counts page views without cookies.
Why
To see how people find the site, and to tell people apart from automated traffic such as search engines, AI crawlers and email link scanners. For a few links I've sent to people, I get an email when one is opened, with the same details. Links at mcval.org/go/ pass you on to another page; the visit is noted the same way first, and so is a preview an app makes when the link is pasted into it.
How long, and who sees it
Only I see it. Visit records are deleted after a year. Nothing is sold or shared. The lawful basis is legitimate interests: understanding visits and keeping out abuse.
Because no IP address or cookie is kept, a record can't be traced back to a person, so there's nothing to look up or delete by name.
Videos and email
Some launch cards play a clip through YouTube's privacy-enhanced player, under YouTube's own privacy policy. Email sent to an @mcval.org address is forwarded to my inbox; a one-line log of it is kept for 30 days.
